The National NFL Insiders Should Have Credited Howard Eskin for the Kellen Moore Scoop
We’re all about giving credit where credit is due, and Howard Eskin scooped all of the national guys on Saturday night by being first to the Kellen Moore news:
After Kellen Moore spoke with #Eagles on Friday it appears team is close to making him team’s new OC. @SportsRadioWIP pic.twitter.com/0jUImuRKdA
— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) January 28, 2024
Note the time of that tweet. 10 p.m. on the dot.
Now, Howard did not necessarily say that Kellen Moore and the Eagles was a done deal, but as far as I’m concerned, that report is close enough to warrant a tip of the hat to The King. However, when Adam Schefter tweeted 53 minutes later, no credit was given:
Another big assistant move in Philadelphia: Eagles are hiring former Chargers and Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator, per sources.
Eagles coordinators now will be Moore and Vic Fangio. pic.twitter.com/5i4qmVAEPB

Same thing with Rap Sheet, who tweeted one minute after Schefter and did not credit Howard:
The #Eagles are expected to hire #Chargers OC Kellen Moore to be their new coordinator, per me and @TomPelissero. One of the top OCs around, Moore was blocked from all interviews until Jim Harbaugh was hired.
He quickly lands in Philly after an interview in Cleveland. pic.twitter.com/MZfW16vkmx

The only national guy who gave the King any kind of shout was Albert Breer:
Kellen Moore has been offered and accepted the @Eagles offensive coordinator job, per source (@HowardEskin on it first). Moore’s status had been up in the air while the @Chargers searched for a new coach.
With that done, he was freed up to leave, and found a home quickly.

As you know, Howard is a total fraud and a dope, but he deserved the credit for this, and didn’t get it. The big national insiders should have mentioned him in their reporting. Those tweets should have included something like “Howard Eskin was first,” or “confirming Howard Eskin.” It’s standard protocol and common courtesy in the journalism field, but then you remind yourself that these guys aren’t journalists. They’re information traders. Maybe they think the industry standard doesn’t apply to them.
Crossing Broad will stand up for The King when no one else will.
As a quick aside, Howard needed this one badly. He whiffed on the Aaron Nola report, and said he was hearing the Phillies weren’t going to re-sign him. Then Nola signed a seven-year, $172 million contract less than two weeks later. Howard could not risk going 0-2 in the span of three months, so as far as I’m concerned, King is back on track after getting the Kellen Moore scoop. This is now the second or third scoop he’s gotten since the Bill Clinton administration. All hail the King! He goes on the Mount Rushmore of kings with King Diamond, King Crimson, and King Nothing.
